Welcome to the Cape's premier health clubs. We would like to thank you for choosing Willy's as your place to work out. We believe we have the best clubs on the Cape with the most knowledgeable and professional staff, a variety of the Industry's most current workout equipment, and a comfortable and clean physical plant. The Cape Cod Community agrees and has shown this by voting Willy's Eastham and Orleans the overall best clubs on the Cape year after year. In fact, this year we received awards in 11 categories. But clubs are not made up of chrome and steel. People are what make clubs truly great, people like you and like the professional caring team at Willy's, spearheaded by owner Barbara Niggel. To really understand what makes Willy's unique you must know the story of love behind the vision.
Willy's is a lifelong dream come true for owner Barbara Niggel. Barbara opened the first Willy's Gym in Orleans in 1985. As a young child, Barbara began training with an amazing teacher of martial arts and of life. His name was Mas Goeroe Agoeng Willy Wetzel. A gentle and caring man, Mas Goeroe Agoeng (which means Master Teacher in Indonesian) taught Barbara that if you can dream it, you can do it. At the age of 15 Barbara won her first National Martial Arts Title. Two years later, at 17, she opened her first martial arts school and gym in Ohio under Mas Goeroe Agoeng's watchful eye. In 1975 Mas Goeroe Agoeng passed away leaving a heartbroken teenager who would spend the rest of her life devoted to his teachings of Compassionate Balanced Action. At 19, Barbara won her first World title in Caracas, Venezuela and held that title for nine consecutive years before retiring undefeated (or as Barbara puts it, before the young ones beat me).
Barbara's life is dedicated to teaching and training Mas Goeroe Agoeng's art of Poekoelan Tjimindie Tulen all over the world. Poekoelan Tjimindie Tulen is not just a martial art, but a healing art and a compassionate way of living.Mas Goeroe Agoeng taught Barbara the value of providing a safe, caring and happy place for people to enjoy-a place that would make a difference in people's lives. In 1985, after a serious injury and much personal loss, Barbara opened Willy's Gym in Orleans, named after her teacher and mentor. In 2002, Barbara opened Willy's World Wellness and Conference Center in Eastham, continuing the tradition of naming the facility in honor of Mas Goeroe Agoeng. In November of 2006 the third location, Willy's West in Hyannis, opened making Willy's the only club on Cape Cod to offer three unique clubs thus creating one large community. Willy's Gym Orleans, Eastham and Hyannis are a product of a dream, a reality of joy, laughter and peace for all. Barbara has no intentions of ever selling either facility, and has committed her life to realizing her dreams, creating a happy place for others to enjoy for years to come!
Yours for World Wellness, Barbara
